Bird Flu hits Britain

The UK’s chief veterinarian has introduced an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) after several cases of bird flu were detected in domestic flocks.  The zone will legally require all bird keepers in Scotland, England, and Wales to follow strong biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of avian flu (H5N8).  H5N8 is highly infectious and has also been found recently in a small number of wild birds.  It is believed that the creation of the AIPZ will help prevent the further spread of avian flu into domestic flocks.
