EC Commits to Sustainable Aquaculture

The European Commission reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable aquaculture with the release of a document called Blue Farming in the European Green Deal.  The document updates the agri-food policy overhaul started in 2021 and builds on the Farm to Fork strategy recognizing that aquaculture is a big part of the sustainability improvements. Sustainable aquaculture can help solve pressing food issues including ensuring food insecurity, alleviating pressure on wild fish stocks, and reducing the environmental footprint of our food system. Blue farming can also provide European consumers with more varied, healthy, and sustainable food choices. EU regulators are working on a list of requirements for blue farming.
