EFSA to Assess Neonicotinoids for Use on Sugar Beets

On December 8, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a notice to assess the use of neonicotinoids on sugar beets.  The request was made by the European Commission and covers 21 emergency authorizations of clothianidin, thiacloprid, and imidacloprid.  The use of these pesticides was previously banned by the EC.  These substances are being reexamined as an alternative means of protecting the sugar beet crops. The assessments should be finalized in 2021. Check with our experts in case of questions.
