India Moves to Restrict Regulations for Alcohol Free Beer

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a new directive for alcohol free beer under the Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) regulations. The new clause states that alcohol free beer must carry an alcohol-by-volume (ABV) level of 0.0 which is difficult to achieve as most beers, even non-alcoholic ones, contain very low levels of alcohol as a result of the brewing process. The revision to beer standards is expected to be strictly enforced.

This new clause does not impact the definition for low alcohol or mild beers in India. Our consultants have expertise in global alcoholic beverage regulations as well as the related standards.
