Earlier this month, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) announced an amendment to the “Ordinance for Enforcement of Food Sanitation Act”. The new amendment states that four new additives including chitin-glucan and dipotassium dl-tartrate are considered harmless to the human body and therefore permitted for use in food.
