Japan approves four new Food Additives

Earlier this month, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) announced an amendment to the “Ordinance for Enforcement of Food Sanitation Act”. The new amendment states that four new additives including chitin-glucan and dipotassium dl-tartrate are considered harmless to the human body and therefore permitted for use in food. Their specifications and usage standards are set forth in the “Standards and Criteria for Food and Food Additives”. The amendment took effect on the date of promulgation.
