New Ingredient Spotlight: Centella Asiatica for Skin Care and more

Centella asiatica which is also known as Indian pennywort or gotu kola is becoming a hot ingredient in skin care cosmetics. The medicinal herb has been used for centuries to treat illnesses and help heal wounds.  The herb contains high levels of amino acids, beta carotene, and fatty acids which provide anti-inflammatory benefits.  The anti-inflammatory properties increase skin hydration and help soothe and repair irritated skin. The herb also helps stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity and has been used in the treatment of eczema. In some countries, gotu kola is ingested as a leafy vegetable or a supplement.  This ingredient is popping up for dermal use in several cosmetic and skin care lines as well as in several  new dietary supplement products.
