Retailer Sued Over Rotisserie Chicken

Several Costco shareholders are suing the retailer over the sale of rotisserie chickens. The lawsuit alleges that the chickens are mistreated by being bred to be too large which then causes death from hunger and illness. According to the complaint, this practice violates animal welfare laws in Nebraska and Iowa where the chickens are raised. A previous lawsuit against Costco claimed poor animal welfare practices. Also noted was the high sodium content of the rotisserie chickens which are injected with a salt solution. Rotisserie chickens are popularly sold at a loss in many large wholesale clubs.
