Salmonella Outbreak from Onions Continues to Sicken People

A salmonella outbreak linked to onions imported from Mexico continues to grow with over 800 people in the US sick and 150 hospitalized.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that the outbreak has hit 37 states with Texas being the epicenter.  The CC said the contaminated onions were imported from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico between late July and late August.  Red, white, and yellow onions are impacted in the salmonella outbreak, and the companies responsible have issued recalls through the retail stream.  Many of the onions were used by meal kit distributors HelloFresh and EveryPlate.  New infections of salmonella continue to be reported as of November 1.
