New Labelling Regulation for UNESCO World Heritage Foods and Beverages

For food and beverage items of UNESCO world heritage status, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) drafted a regulation that allows a special seal on the label for such food and beverage items. Examples are the beer culture in Belgium, the traditional Qvevri method of winemaking in Georgia, the Turkish coffee culture and many more.

The proposal states that starting on 31 October 2021, a special seal or stamp is allowed on the front of the packaging to alert consumers to a food or beverage’s UNESCO world heritage status. The suggested seal consists a bordeaux-red rectangle with a gold border and gold printed letters to underwrite the status of specialty and exclusivity.
