Earlier in October the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration published a draft regulation titled “Use of Aloe Vera as Ingredient in Food” which limits the manufacturing, processing, and consumption of aloe vera. Only completely peeled leaves of Aloe vera and Aloe ferox can be processed into food ingredients, and total aloin content must not exceed the limit of 10 ppm. Packaging must also bear warning labels related specifically to pregnant women, children and individuals with liver or kidney disease. The new provisions take effect on January 1, 2022.
